Mr. Stein has over 20 years of general management, operating and financial
management experience in both company environments, middle-market businesses
undergoing restructuring, and small, rapidly growing companies.
From 2000 to 2001, Mr. Stein served as Co-Head of VentureBank@PNC
and Media and Communications Finance at PNC Financial Services Group,
where he was responsible for directing the delivery of PNC’s
products and services to VentureBank’s high technology and emerging
growth client base. These products included direct equity investments,
credit products and leasing facilities for early and expansion stage
companies, advisory services including M&A and private placements,
and investments in venture capital funds.
Prior to joining PNC, Mr. Stein was President and Chief Operating
Officer of TriNet Corporate Realty Trust (NYSE: TRI), a $1.8 billion
real estate investment trust that was acquired by Starwood Financial
Trust (now called iStar Financial) in late 1999. As President, he
was responsible for leading the senior management team and overseeing
strategy, operations, investment, and financial management.
Before joining TriNet in 1995, Mr. Stein held a number of senior
investment and financial management positions with Westinghouse Electric,
Westinghouse Financial Services, and Duquesne Light Company. While
with Westinghouse Electric, Mr. Stein negotiated favorable outcomes
in over 50 complex loan restructurings arising from the liquidation
of Westinghouse Financial Services, and developed and executed a financial
strategy which allowed Westinghouse to maintain access to capital
despite a significant impairment in the value of its loan portfolio.
At Duquesne Light Company, Mr. Stein developed and implemented a financial
restructuring, which resulted in a tripling of the common stock price
of that company.
Mr. Stein practiced law for eight years, specializing in financial
transactions and litigation. Mr. Stein received his AB from Princeton
University where he majored in Classics, his JD from the University
of Pittsburgh and an MS with Distinction from the Graduate School
of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon University.
